What to Expect on your Lake Erie Charter Trip

Whether you’re an experienced angler or just looking for a relaxing day out on the open water, it’s important to be prepared for your first fishing charter. Here are a few things to note before coming aboard!

Fishing Rods Set Up on Charter Boat

What should you bring on the fishing charter?

Your crew, as well as the charter itself, will have everything you need for a successful day out on the water! You won’t need to worry about any fishing supplies because the boat is fully equipped with the technology and tools required to get your big catch. However, there are a few additional items you might want with you while out on the lake:

  • Whatever you want to eat or drink: You can’t rely on the fish for your charter meal so be sure to bring along lunch and snacks. On our charter, beer is perfectly fine to bring, but try to stick to cans instead of bottles.

  • The appropriate apparel: A little rain won’t keep us from catching some Lake Erie game, so check the weather forecast before your trip. The boat does have a hard top, but it doesn’t hurt to bring your galoshes and a rain jacket! However, if we see thunder and lightning, the trip will have to wait for another day.

  • Your fishing license: In order to come aboard the charter, you will need your valid Ohio fishing license with you at all times.

If you tend to experience sea sickness, take some precautionary measures

It happens all the time—the waves can easily get to you out on the water. If you are prone to sea sickness, we just encourage you to proactively take a motion sickness aid. We want you to have a fun and relaxing time out on the water with us, and sea sickness might not be your favorite activity.

Learn more about the sport on a charter

On a charter trip, you have an experienced and helpful crew at your disposal. This gives you the perfect opportunity to learn a few more tricks of the trade. You can be as involved as you want to be with the fishing process, however we’ll take charge of netting the fish—we wouldn’t want you to lose your big catch now, would we?

Sit back and relax

If the process doesn’t float your boat, you can just take the time to relax and enjoy the water! Don’t worry, we’ll let you know when the fish bites, so you can reel it in.

Do you get to keep the fish you catch?

Of course! The fish are the trophies you earned out on the lake, so be sure to bring a cooler big enough to take your fish home in (you can leave this in the car). At Eyes Ready Charters, we have a team of hands on deck ready to clean your fish for you upon our return. It’s an additional cost, but worth it to be able to get home and cook up your catch.
