Lake Erie’s walleye population in 2018 was estimated to be 41 million
Anglers will mostly encounter fish ranging from 17 to 22 inches from the 2014 and 2015 year classes.
A large number of undersized fish from the 2018 year class will also likely be caught. Please release the fish with as little handling as possible so they can contribute to the fishery in the future.
A walleye harvest rate of 0.15 fish per hour is considered exceptional. Lake Erie’s average harvest rate in 2018 was 0.8 fish per hour!
